Grassland biodiversity under water and nutrient change

Examining how water and nutrient conditions shape plant diversity and the abundance of a non-native grass.

Research question

How do changes in water and nutrient availability affect plant species richness and the performance of a non-native grass in an Ontario grassland?

The poster presenting this work received the Queen’s University Biological Station Best Research Presentation award at Queen’s University Poster Day.

Field and data work

I contributed to field sampling and plant identification, processed more than 1,000 plant samples in the laboratory, organized the dataset, and used R to investigate ecological patterns.

Communication

I presented the project at Queen’s University Poster Day and wrote a literature-integrated synthesis paper. The presentation received the Queen’s University Biological Station Best Research Presentation award.

Research perspective

The project strengthened my interest in combining careful natural-history observation, experimental design, reproducible analysis, and clear scientific communication.
